Basic course in Safety and Rescue Part 2 is intended for those who plan to work as pool lifeguards, swimming instructors or swimming coaches at swimming and bathing facilities that the public has access to.

Duration of the course 12 - 14 hours
First aid and rescue 10-12 hours.
Aptitude test: 2 hours.

The course is taught in English.

Schedule:
January 18th: 9.00-17.00, First aid
January 19th: 9.00-15.00, Rescue and skill assessment

Location: Laugardalslaug

The aim of the course is to provide participants with knowledge, skills and competence in their role, duties and responsibilities as a lifeguard, swimming instructor or swimming coach. It will also provide participants with knowledge, skills and abilities that they will then be able to use to:

Prevent, identify and respond to emergencies in and around water.

Provide professional assistance in emergency situations of accidents or acute illness until emergency personnel arrive at the scene and take over the situation.

A skill assessment according to Annex III of the regulation on hygiene in swimming and bathing facilities takes place during the course, but in order to have the right to work as a lifeguard, swimming instructor or swimming coach the skill assessment must be passed annually. Participants must bring a swimsuit with them, along with a long-sleeved top and pants. In order to be issued a certificate in Safety and Rescue, participants must:

Attend the entire course and demonstrate active participation in all aspects of the course:
-Discussions and questions.
-Practical exercises and case exercises.
-Pass the skill assessment

Participants who pass the Basic Course Safety and Rescue: Part 2 will be issued with the following certificate: Safety and Rescue: Others +/-skill assessment

To maintain your rights, you must attend continuing education courses and pass a skill assessment before your certificate expires. A 30-day grace period is given on either side of the day the certificate expires.

If the license has expired for more than 6 months, it is necessary to attend a basic course in Safety and Rescue to acquire the license again, and to pass a skill assessment according to regulations.

Please note that participation is a prerequisite for the course.

The participation fee is not refunded if the course is shorter than three days and a medical certificate is not available. After the course has started, the participation fee is non-refundable.

Participants are encouraged to bring a lunch.
