Ríkislögreglustjóri hefur lýst yfir óvissustigi almannavarna í samráði við sóttvarnalækni og embætti landlæknis vegna kórónaveiru (2019-nCoV). Ekkert smit hefur verið staðfest á Íslandi.

Í lok desember 2019 bárust fregnir af alvarlegum lungnasýkingum í Wuhan-borg í Kína. Í kjölfarið var staðfest að um áður óþekkt kórónaveiruafbrigði er að ræða, sem nú kallast 2019-nCoV. Staðfest er að veiran smitast á milli manna og að hún getur valdið alvarlegum veikindum. Faraldurinn breiðist hratt út en enn sem komið er hafa flest tilfellin greinst í Kína.

Í ljósi þessa, og á grundvelli áhættumats Alþjóðaheilbrigðisstofnunarinnar og Sóttvarnarstofnunar ESB, hefur Ríkislögreglustjóri lýst yfir óvissustigi almannavarna í samráði við sóttvarnalækni og embætti landlæknis vegna kórónaveiru (2019-nCoV).

Óvissustigi er lýst þegar grunur vaknar um að yfirvofandi sé atburður sem hefur áhrif á lýðheilsu. Í kjölfarið er samstarf stofnana aukið, sem og upplýsingamiðlun. Vöktun er efld, áhættumat endurskoðað svo oft sem þurfa þykir og birgðastaða nauðsynlegra bjarga er könnuð og skráð. Farið er yfir viðbragðsáætlanir og fyrirliggjandi verkferla.

The National Commissioner of the Icelandic Police, in association with the Directorate of Health, has declared an uncertainty phase due to the novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV). No confirmed cases in Iceland.

At the end of December 2019, Chinese authorities identified a cluster of serious respiratory infections of unknown cause in Wuhan-city in China. The causative agent has since been identified, a novel coronavirus, now called 2019-nCoV. The virus can be spread from person to person although the extent of transmission is still not clear. Whilst many questions remain unanswered the outbreak and number of infections are fast increasing. Most confirmed cases are in China.

While there are no suspected cases of the novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) in Iceland, the National Commissioner of the Icelandic Police, in association with the Directorate of Health, has declared an uncertainty phase based on risk assessments from The World Health Organization (WHO) and the European Center for Disease Control (ECDC).

Uncertainty phase is characterized by an indication of event that could pose a health- or security threat to people, communities or the environment. Relevant authorities are closely coordinating the response and monitoring the situation.
